Brittany Matthews, MOT, OTR/L

Co- Owner & Occupational Therapist 

Brittany Matthews, MOT, OTR/L graduated from Tennessee Tech University with her Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and continued her education at Tennessee State University earning her Master’s in Occupational Therapy. Brittany grew up with a younger sister with special needs and was immersed into the therapy world at a young age. From those experiences, she was able to witness the endless possibilities when the right TEAM is involved. From then on, she knew she wanted to work with children because watching a child learn, develop, and overcome obstacles is the most fulfilling career.

 

Since graduating, Brittany has had the opportunity to work and train alongside multiple therapists in various school and outpatient settings. Along with being the occupational therapist at Kids First Pediatric Therapies, she is also the evaluating and supervising pediatric occupational therapist in multiple school districts. Her heart has always been with the small towns, and she loves being able to provide specialized pediatric services locally!

 

Brittany is from the Upper Cumberland area and has lived in Overton County for the past 10+ years. She married her high school sweetheart, Cody, and now has three fun-loving children who constantly keep her on the go! In her free time she enjoys being outside, going to the lake, and exploring different parks with her family.

Amy Carty, PT, DPT

Co-Owner & Physical Therapist 

Amy Carty, PT, DPT is a Doctorate of Physical Therapy, who has a deep passion for working with children and helping them learn through play. She is originally from Jackson County, TN where she graduated from Jackson County High School in 2008. She studied at the University of Tennessee ​Chattanooga and received her Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science in 2012. Amy then moved to Memphis, TN to attend Physical Therapy school at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.

 

After graduating in 2015, she returned to the Upper Cumberland area where she worked at Cookeville Regional Medical Center in multiple settings including the inpatient rehabilitation center, acute care, but the majority of her time was spent in the pediatric department of the Outpatient Rehab Center. Amy is also the evaluating and supervising Physical Therapist in multiple school districts. She has worked with patients ranging from a few weeks old to late teens as well as a variety of diagnoses including: Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Torticollis, Developmental Coordination Disorder, Traumatic Brain Injury, Spina Bifida, Autism, developmental delay, gait abnormalities, and many more conditions and syndromes.

 

When Amy is not working, she enjoys spending time with her husband, Luke, family and friends, playing board and card games as well as maintaining an active lifestyle through working out, running and hiking. Amy’s goal is to provide the best care to children and their families, especially in small rural areas like where she grew up.

Kendra Mahan, M.S., CCC-SLP

Speech Language Pathologist

Kendra is a passionate pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist licensed in the state of TN. She grew up in Gainesboro, TN and continued her education at Tennessee State University where she completed her Bachelor's Degree in Health Sciences Concentration in Communication Sciences Disorders followed by receiving her Masters of Science in Speech and Hearing. Since graduating, Kendra has completed extensive training in a variety of childhood speech and language disorders, pediatric-based feeding techniques, and is currently working towards becoming a Certified Autism Spectrum Disorder Clinical Specialist (ASDCS).

 

Kendra strives to provide quality services while engaging through a play-based learning style to facilitate increased interest and trust with her clients. In her free time, Kendra enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband, Jake, and their energetic dog, Dusty.

Taylor Bumbalough, MOT, OTR/L

Occupational Therapist 

Taylor Bumbalough, MOT, OTR/L is a native of neighboring Cookeville and graduated from Upperman High School in Baxter. She graduated with a Master's of Science in Occupational Therapy from Tennessee State University after completing her Bachelors in Exercise Science at TTU. 


Taylor has been working in pediatrics for 3 years including both outpatient and school settings. Taylor has known since an early age she wanted to be an occupational therapist and has a heart for working with children and helping them learn and succeed through play. Outside of work, Taylor enjoys spending time with her husband, Jared, and their dog Winnie.


“I chose to practice in pediatrics because we specialize in helping children gain independence through play early on in life to strengthen and enhance fine motor, sensory motor, and visual motor skills. My favorite thing about working in pediatrics is being able to celebrate with a child when they learn and master new skills.”

Jessica Wilson, COTA/L

Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant

We are pleased to have Jessica Wilson join our team! She is a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant and a Certified Living in Place Professional (COTA/ L, CLIPP). She has over 7 years experience in the field. Jessica is enthusiastic about leading children to their full potential through play and individualized care. Jessica started in Occupational Therapy after she graduated from Nashville State Community College in 2013 where she obtained her Associates of Science. 


After entering the therapy world, she has had the opportunity to work in various settings working with patients across the lifespan. Her passion for working with children is absolutely infectious! She currently is contracted full-time in Jackson County School District and is working towards becoming a certified handwriting specialist. Jessica is well known in her community for being a leader who is enthusiastic about her field and is willing to go the extra mile to provide excellent services. 


A little more about Jessica on a personal level, she is a mother of two children, a wonderful wife of six years to her husband, Will, and they currently reside in the small town of Sparta where they plan on building their forever home. Jessica looks forward to meeting each and every one of you!

Marleigh Cooper, PTA

Physical Therapy Assistant 

Marleigh Cooper, PTA, is from nearby Fentress county. She is a graduate of Alvin C. York Institute and furthered her education in the Physical Therapy world at Roane State Community College. Marleigh has worked in pediatrics since her graduation in 2017. She has primarily practiced in the outpatient setting with new exposure in the public school systems. 


Marleigh is known for being on time and organized, and your child will love working with her dynamic personality. She is always coming up with new games to make therapy more fun! Outside of the clinic, Marleigh enjoys riding Rzr’s and cannot make it one day without her loaded tea! In her free time she enjoys playing softball and spending time at the lake with friends and family.

Lindsey Beaty, CCC-SLP

Speech-Language Pathologist

Lindsey Beaty, MS CCC-SLP is a native of neighboring Fentress County and graduated from Alvin C. ​York Agricultural Institute in Jamestown. She graduated with a Master's of Science in Speech Language Pathology from East Tennessee State University after completing her Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Development with a minor in Communicative Disorders from East Tennessee State University.


Prior to beginning her career in Speech Language Pathology, Lindsey taught preschool, where a passion for pediatrics began. She has over 9 years experience in the Speech Language Pathology field. After entering the therapy world, she has had the opportunity to work in various settings working with patients across the lifespan from a few weeks old to 101 years of age with a variety of diagnoses including: aphasia, dysphagia, dysarthria, Parkinson’s disease, Down syndrome, developmental delay, phonological disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorder, receptive/expressive language disorders and many other conditions. 


Lindsey is enthusiastic about providing therapy services through play-based learning to provide exceptional care to children and their families. Lindsey has been married to her high school sweetheart for 9 years. They have one son, Porter. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family, traveling, and sewing.
